Fourth Grade

Fourth grade is a year of growing independence, deeper thinking, and meaningful connections to the world around us. At Sisters Elementary School, students continue building confidence as learners while taking on greater responsibility for their work, collaborating with classmates, solving increasingly complex problems, and discovering how learning connects across subjects and beyond the classroom.

A special part of the fourth-grade experience is its strong connection to Oregon history. Students explore the people, places, and events that have shaped our state through experiences such as the Oregon’s First People celebration, Lewis & Clark and Oregon pioneer studies, and an overnight field trip that includes the State Capitol, Fort Vancouver, and the Oregon Historical Society. Fourth-grade classrooms also use the Storyline method, bringing creative arts together with reading, writing, math, science, and social studies to create engaging, connected learning experiences.

Our goal is for fourth graders to leave the year with greater independence, curiosity, and confidence, and a deeper understanding of their community, their state, and their own ability to learn, contribute, and grow.
